On the staff of the Morning Herald, 1845. Literary reviewer for The Times, 1845-54. Editor and proprietor of John Bull, 1845-6; also contributed to the Literary Gazette. Literary Director of the Crystal Palace, 1853; wrote the general handbook to the palace, and an account of its portrait gallery, 1854. LL.D., Göttingen, 1852. Twice married, and had issue.
