Professor of Mathematics at Haverford College, Pennsylvania, 1887-1900; at Johns Hopkins University, 1900. His three sons all became Rhodes scholars from Maryland. A very distinguished chess player, and a writer on the subject; once beat Dr Lasker, then the champion of the world. Author, mathematical papers, and part author of Harkness & Morley, Introduction to the Theory of Analytical Functions. Died Oct. 17, 1937, at Baltimore.
