M.P. for St Germans, 1780-4; for Great Grimsby, 1784-90 and 1793-6; for Banbury, 1790-1812; for Richmond, 1812-18; for Haddington, 1818-20. Friend of Samuel Johnson. Succeeded to the North estate at Little Glemham, 1789, and assumed the name of North by testamentary injunction of his aunt. Succeeded his brother Charles at Saxmundham in 1812, and resumed the name of Long in addition to North; henceforth known as Long-North. Gave £50 towards rebuilding after the College fire in 1811. Married, Nov. 5, 1802, the Hon. Sophia Anderson-Pelham, dau. of the 1st Lord Yarborough. Died, s.p., Feb. 21, 1829, at Brompton. Full-length statue in Little Glemham church.
