The Times correspondent in Hunza-Nagar campaign, 1891; in Matabeleland, 1893-5; in Madagascar, 1895; the Sudan campaign, 1896; Greece , 1897; Sudan , 1897-8; Cuba, 1898; Spain , 1899. Morning Post correspondent during S. African War, 1899-1900 (severely wounded and lost his right arm). With the Ophir tour round the world, 1901-2; in the Russo-Japanese War, 1904; Turkey , 1908; and with the Harwich Naval Forces in the Great War, 1914-19. A well-known yachtsman.
