Lincoln's Inn, May 26, 1860. Called to the Bar, Apr. 30, 1864. Practised for
eight years as an Equity Draftsman and Conveyancer. Came into possession of
the Glansevern estates, at Berriew, Montgomery, 1876, and assumed the
additional name of Owen in that year. Took an active part in the movement for
founding the Welsh University, for a time serving as its junior
Deputy-Chancellor. Described as 'the father of the Welsh intermediate
education system.' Chairman of the Central Welsh Board. M.P. for Montgoms.,
1894-1905. Chairman of the Montgomeryshire C.C. Chairman, Cambrian Railways
Co. Died Dec. 9, 1905, at Welshpool. Father of the next. (Harrow Sch.
