16, 1830. Withdrew his name from the Bar, Nov. 12, 1837, and studied medicine
at St Thomas's Hospital. Practised at Turvey, 1838. Of Turvey Abbey, Beds.
J.P. and D.L. for Beds. Succeeded to the family property on his father's
death, 1846. Visited Egypt and the Holy Land, 1848. Restored the church at
Turvey, built schools and a village museum, and gave lectures on natural
history. Married, July 26, 1853, Helen Eliza, dau. of Thomas Burgon, of the
British Museum. 'He projected the compilation of a hymn-book which should be
used universally in the Church of England, and read a paper on Hymnology
before the Church Congress at Nottingham in 1871.' Died s.p. Jan. 23,
