1849. Married, Jan. 31, 1833, Isabella, dau. of Anthony Compton, of Carham
Hall, Northumberland. Assumed the additional surname of Hind, by sign manual,
1836, in accordance with the will of Miss Elizabeth Archer Hind, of Stelling
Hall and Ovington. Took a leading part in the formation of the Scotswood Road,
which, with its suspension bridge across the Tyne, bisected his estate. In
1835, as Vice-Chairman of the North Shields Railway Co., laid the
foundation-stones of the Ouseburn and Willington viaducts; associated with the
Redheugh bridge, also across the Tyne, being Chairman of the Company formed to
complete it. Rendered much service to local history by searching the State
archives for documents relating to the government, commerce and public life of
Newcastle and Northumberland; gave copies to the Rev. John Hodgson for his
History of Northumberland. A prominent member of the Newcastle Society
of Antiquaries, and contributed to their publications. Died s.p. Nov.
