From being a strong Tory and supporter of Pitt he gradually went over to the Whigs and used all his influence in favour of civil and religious liberty. Married, Nov. 16, 1784, Charlotte Maria, dau. of James, 2nd Earl Waldegrave. Lived in retirement at Euston Hall for nearly 20 years, where he died Sept. 28, 1844.
