Stated to have been the only member of a religious order to be made a bishop since the Reformation; in the palace at Truro he continued to live the monastic life, attended by two brethren.
During his episcopate was in controversy on more than one occasion with Church people in his diocese, but always had a large body of supporters.
Resigned, 1935, and returned to Mirfield.
Possessed a very wide knowledge of all kinds of music, and particularly of the Bach cantatas.
