Physician to the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital, 1843-86. Treasurer, R.C.P.; Censor, 1841-54. Lecturer in Materia Medica, 1843-5. One of the editors of the first British Pharmacopoeia, 1864; supervised an abridgement of Pereira's Materia Medica. Through his energy and perseverance the Royal College of Physicians' building in Pall Mall 'was completely repaired, renovated and ornamented, internally as well as externally.' Married Julia Lewis, 1848, and had issue. Died Nov. 9, 1886, in Kensington. Brother of the above. (Carthus.
