Chargé d'Affaires at Paris, 1865-8; retired, 1868. 'Possessed a brilliant wit, a keen sense of humour, and an unrivalled grace of manner and expression.' A great friend of Edward, 2nd Earl of Lytton.
Married, Sept. 29, 1866, Adine Eliza Anne, dau. of George, 6th Earl of Cowper, and had issue.
