Married, Oct. 1830, Jane Mary, dau. of Sir Ambrose Hardinge Giffard, Chief Justice of Ceylon, and had issue. Had the reputation of being the greatest advocate of the 19th century. 'In every qualification of intellect and grace he was as nearly perfect as man can be,' wrote Lord Hatherley (Life, I. 270). Died June 28, 1845, having suffered all his life from lung trouble.
