An intimate friend of Macaulay, and in later life visited the Continent with him every autumn, acted as his executor and edited the posthumous volume of Macaulay's Works. A member of the Useful Knowledge Society and revised many of its publications.
Died Apr. 5, 1861, aged 64, in London.
