Went on a solitary pedestrian tour through Central Europe and Italy, 1853.

In spite of strongly expressed views against Puritanism, his work forms a valuable contribution to the knowledge of English Ballad literature.
Edited Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream; Poems of Robert Southwell; Butler's Hudibras, etc., and contributed to the early volumes of the D.N.B. Lived latterly at Ashford, Kent.
Died there s.p. June 7, 1908, aged 83.
