Recorder of Bridport. Sheriff of Dorset, 1818. F.R.S., 1832. F.S.A. Unsuccessfully contested the constituencies of Harwich, 1832, and N. Essex, 1835. He had inherited, with the Hyde, Ingatestone, the collection of antiquities (formed in Italy by Hollins and Brand) and was himself a keen collector of ancient marbles and statuary. Founded the Disney Professorship of Archaeology, 1851. Left to the University a valuable collection of marbles, now in the Fitzwilliam Museum, and in addition to the original £1000, a further sum of £2250 for the Disney Chair. Author, Museum Disneianum, etc. Married, Sept. 22, 1802, Sophia, dau. of Lewis Disney (Ffytche) (1757), of Swinderby. Died May 6, 1857, aged 78, at The Hyde, Ingatestone.
