Received into the Roman Catholic Church whilst still at school.
At Cambridge he contracted a close friendship with Kenelm Digby, author of the Broadstone of Honour, a recent convert, and they spent much time together until, at the end of his second year, De Lisle had to travel abroad on account of illness.
Built a small manor-house in the Tudor style at Gracedieu, Leics., in 1835, and gave 230 acres of land for the re-establishment of the Cistercian order exactly three centuries after its suppression.
On this estate Gracedieu Abbey was eventually built.
Closely associated with many Roman Catholic dignitaries over a period of many years, and devoted himself to the reunion of Christendom.
On the death of his father in 1862, inherited the family estates, and assumed the name of De Lisle.

Married, in 1833, Laura Mary, dau. of the Hon. Thomas Clifford, and had 16 children.
Author of several religious works.
