Cavendish, Thomas. Matric. Fell.-Com. from CORPUS CHRISTI, Easter, 1576. 4th s. of Sir Richard Gernon, alias Cavendish, of Grimstone Hall, Suffolk. Bapt. at Trimley St Martin, Sept. 19, 1560. Perhaps adm. at Gray's Inn, 1577. M.P. for Shaftesbury, 1584-6; and for Wilton, 1588. Famous as a navigator. His first voyage was to Virginia, in 1585. On the second, 1586-8, he passed the Straits of Magellan and circumnavigated the globe, gaining rich prizes from the Spaniards.
