Travelled in North America, 1847-57; in the East, 1862-7; lived a forest life among the Indian tribes. Undertook, with M. Jules Remy, an adventurous expedition to Utah and Salt Lake City. In 1864, travelled to New Zealand with Lieut. The Hon. Herbert Meade, R.N.; rendered services in regard to the submission of the Maoris. Cruised among the Islands of the South Pacific with Commodore Sir William Wiseman in the Curacoa collecting ethnographical objects. Bequeathed his valuable collections in ethnography, natural history, etc., to the town of Maidstone and endowed the Museum there. Author, The Cruise of the Curaçoa, etc. Died Feb. 24, 1873, aged 56, at Folkestone. Buried at All Saints', Maidstone. Perhaps brother of Edward K. (1837).
