Urged his brother, the Rev. Edward Tymewell Brydges (1766), to claim the barony of Chandos, alleging his descent from a younger son of the first Brydges to bear that title.
The claim was disallowed by the House of Lords.

Occupied himself with literary work, issuing reprints of rare English pieces from the private press established at Lee Priory.
