Introduced the Clergy Discipline Bill (passed, 1892). His work in connection with patronage bills responsible for the Benefices Act of 1898. Secured the appointment of a Royal Commission to enquire into the working of Education Acts, 1886. Created a House of Laymen to sit in connection with the convocation of his province. Vigorously opposed the disestablishment of the Church in Wales. Organised the Central Church Committee for Church Defence and Instruction, 1893. Presided and delivered judgment at the trial of Dr Edward King, Bishop of Lincoln, for alleged ritual offences, 1889-90. Devoted much time to the missionary work of the Church and revived the office of an Anglican Bishop at Jerusalem. Practically the founder of the Mission to the Assyrian Church. Went on a preaching tour in Ireland; at the re-opening of Kildare Cathedral and elsewhere, 1896. Author, Cyprian; his Life, his Times, his Work; Sermons, etc. Died suddenly Oct. 11, 1896.
