Lived at Alexandria, where his library was destroyed during the British bombardment; devoted his leisure to the study of social and political problems in Egypt.
Judge of the Egyptian Court of Appeal (native Tribunals), 1883-6. An able jurist, also well versed in theology and philosophy.
