Served on the Commission regulating the practice of Vice-Admiralty Courts abroad, 1811. Assisted in negotiating a treaty with the United States, after the capture of Washington, 1814; entrusted with 'the sole preparations of despatches' relating to Maritime Law. One of the three plenipotentiaries to conclude a Convention of Commerce between Great Britain and the United States, 1815. Laborious work, connected with the preparation of the case against Queen Caroline, undermined his health; resigned his profession, 1825. Of Dummer Grange, Hants., and of Thorpe, Chertsey, Surrey. Married (1) Sarah, dau. of Thomas Scott, R. of King's Stanley, Gloucs., Aug. 31, 1803; (2) Mary Anne, dau. of the Hon. William Cockayne, of Rushton Hall, Northants., Apr. 6, 1811.
