Oct. 7, 1778, in London .] School, Westminster (Dr Vincent). Matric. Lent, 1796; Browne (Classical) medal, 1798; M.B. 1800; M.D. 1805. F.R.C.P., 1806; Censor, 1810; Harveian Orator, 1826. Physician to St George's Hospital, 1803-16. F.R.S., 1813. Gazetted Physician-Extraordinary to the King, July 24, 1830, but declined the honour. An accomplished classical scholar. Had a caustic wit and a very independent manner as a physician; 'took a prodigious amount of snuff, and was plain and untidy in his dress, perhaps to affectation.' Married, May 3, 1814, Penelope, eldest dau. of the Very Rev. William Davies Shipley, Dean of St Asaph, and had issue, 7 children. Died Dec 2, 1835, at Worting House, near Basingstoke.
