'The study of Astronomy and Optics formed the occupation of his life.' Purchased land in Wimbledon Park and built there (1859-61), 'a substantial residence, which he called Devonshire Lodge'; having lost many thousands of pounds, was obliged to sell this house, which he never occupied. Resided at Barnsbury, until his death. Author of numerous papers on astronomy. Died June 15, 1891. Brother of George C. (1832).
